I’m a young nonprofit professional working in New York City. I hail from the suburbs of Minneapolis where my “eat local” lifestyle was first influenced by my mother’s urge to feed us healthy food and then by my high school years I spent cashiering at a food coop.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in journalism and then left Minnesota for a one year AmeriCorps VISTA stint in DC. I ended up in NYC because I love the abundance of opportunities, diverse people, good public transportation and neighborhoods that are designed for a person on foot, rather than a car.
For me now, there are many challenges to eating local in this pricy urban landscape, but I do my best to learn from and influence those who are around me. Here’s to living local!
